How we compute this

We use a widely-cited walking-calorie approximation of about 0.04 kcal per step for a 70 kg adult walking at a moderate pace, scaled by your own bodyweight (heavier bodies burn more per step). That's steps × 0.04 × (weight_kg / 70), and distance assumes an average stride of about 76 cm.

This is an estimate, not a metabolic-cart measurement — your actual burn shifts with pace, incline, terrain, and your own fitness level. Treat the number as a reasonable ballpark for planning, not a precise energy-in figure to balance a meal against.

Questions people ask

Using this calculator's estimate (0.04 kcal per step, scaled by bodyweight), 10,000 steps burns roughly 400 kcal for a 70 kg adult — a bit more if you're heavier, a bit less if you're lighter. It's a ballpark, since pace, incline and fitness level all shift the real number.
