How we compute this

Each item uses its real IFCT 2017 (Indian Food Composition Tables) value for a standard household serving — 1 medium roti, 1 katori of cooked rice/dal/sabzi/curd (about 150 g), or 1 piece (100 g) of paneer. Move a slider and we multiply that item's calories and protein by the quantity you set, then add everything on the plate together.

A katori is the small steel bowl used across Indian kitchens for serving rice, dal, sabzi and curd — roughly 150 g of cooked food, though it varies a little by household and region.

Questions people ask

It depends heavily on what's on it — a simple roti-dal-sabzi-rice-curd thali like the one above lands around 550-650 kcal, while adding paneer or a second roti can push it past 800. Use the sliders to match your own thali and see the real number instead of a single quoted average.
